Fundraiser at the Gas City Pour House Raises More Than $3,000 for Community Outreach Program

by Ashley Lopez

Families and communities throughout Indiana are struggling during this pandemic, but if you look closer, you’ll find there are many people coming together to help those in need. Gas City has had numerous volunteers raising money to help families in their community.

Just this weekend, Brent and Michelle Ferguson teamed up with the Pour House and held a fundraiser on Saturday, April 25, selling $6 burgers and chips. They were also accepting donations for those wanting to contribute.

One donation that stood out was from Jean Waymire, who donated their entire $1200 stimulus check.

Toby Barnes from Frito Lay and Tim Young from Aunt Millie’s also made large contributions to the event.

Even some of the local youth joined in to help: Brielle Rock and Crew Worthington made a lemonade stand and raised $60, which they also donated.

Pour House owner Brandon Rock and his wife Kelly donated the proceeds from the entire day, a total of $3247.00, to Channel 27’s Community Outreach Program, which will help families in need in the Gas City area.

Channel 27’s Community Outreach has been growing for about 18 months. In that time, thousands of dollars have been spent giving back to the community. It has grown enough that we’ve been able to install our first food pantry for Gas City, which will remain stocked to continue helping those in need who live in Gas City (Mill township).

There is a short application process to be eligible for assistance, and the pantry is run entirely by donations. Food is delivered once a month to families in need. Emergency assistance is also available, and all Grant County residents are able to apply.

Due to limitation of resources, emergency applications outside of Gas City will be processed on a case-by-case basis. Channel 27’s Community Outreach Program is currently striving to eventually have enough resources to help all of Grant County. The more this grows, and the more donations we receive, the more families can receive help.
