At this point in the year, while we’re scraping ice off our windshields and dealing with bitingly cold wind chills, a lot of us start longing for warmer weather and all that comes with it. We start dreaming about walking outside in shorts and a tank top, going barefoot, sitting on our porches, soaking up the sun’s rays, cracking open a nice cold beverage…
Many of us also look forward to the summer weather, because we know that means enjoying live music, whether it’s in a park or a crowded outdoor venue.
Bands and musicians have started releasing their tour stops for 2020, including those right here in Indiana.
In recent years, residents of Grant County have enjoyed live music in the Gas City park throughout the summer months. Some of their weekly shows have featured well-known bands and musicians such as Smash Mouth, Sidewalk Prophets, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Dennis Quaid, and 38 Special. These free concerts in the park have also included ice cream socials, pork dinners, and chili cook-offs.
The 2020 line-up for the Gas City Concerts in the Park has not yet been released, but you can keep an eye out for events this summer on their Facebook page. We will also update the line-ups as they become available.
Another popular place to see live music in Indiana is Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville. The venue has had many different names throughout the years, but the outdoor stage has seen many big acts, and it continues to attract well-known musicians every summer, with a solid line-up planned for 2020.
Here are the shows that have already been announced for Ruoff this year:
- Maroon 5 — June 14th, 2020
- Dave Matthews Band — June 19th and 20th, 2020
- Nickelback — June 26th, 2020
- Journey — June 27th, 2020
- Jimmy Buffett — July 11th, 2020
- Alanis Morissette — July 16th, 2020
- Daryl Hall & John Oates — July 22nd, 2020

- The Doobie Brothers — July 30th, 2020
- Phish — August 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2020
- The Black Crowes — August 16th, 2020
Tickets for these shows will surely go fast, so make your plans early.
If indoor settings are more your speed, Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis also has an outstanding line-up for 2020. Being an indoor facility, you can enjoy the shows no matter what the weather outside.
Some of the biggest acts coming to Banker’s Life Fieldhouse include Billie Eilish (March 25th), Elton John (March 26th), Michael Buble (April 1st), and Dan & Shay (April 16th).
Another popular spot for live music in the summer is the White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis.
While the White River State Park has not yet announced its full line-up for the summer, one of the biggest shows coming to the amphitheatre in 2020 is Lynyrd Skynyrd on July 31st, who say this will be their final tour.
Then again, in 2014, Motley Crue also said they were on their final tour (which made a stop in Noblesville) but now have planned additional shows for this summer. They’ll be making a few stops close to Indiana, including Cincinnati on July 2nd, Cleveland on July 3rd, Detroit on August 20th, and Chicago (at Wrigley Field) on August 28th.
A lot of people often joke about how there’s nothing to do in Indiana, but apparently they’ve never been to Indiana in the summer. There really is a lot more than corn in Indiana, especially if you’re a fan of live music.
