New Changes, Businesses Coming to Gas City

by Ashley Lopez

Exciting new developments in Gas City are moving along quickly: the Dollar General store is relocating, Gillman Do It Best store is coming soon, Pizza Hut has moved locations and reopened, and we’re also getting a new Auditorium in the coming year.

The Dollar General store could be opening at their new location in Gas City as early as June 2020. The new building will be located at 801 E Main Street, which was previously the location of Victory Lanes bowling alley. Dollar General sells a variety of household items including food, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, apparel, housewares, seasonal items, paper products and much more. It’s been a staple of Gas City for years, but the new location promises to provide a more enjoyable shopping experience for its customers.

Another store coming to Gas City this year is the Gillman Do It Center. The redevelopment meeting approved 5 acres for the store that includes a lumber yard, outdoor garden center, and hardware store. Gillman’s will be located at 600 E and SR 22 (Main Street).

Some of the services they’ll provide include:

  • Key Cutting
  • Locks Re-Keyed
  • Kitchen & Bath Design
  • Window & Screen Repair
  • Glass Cutting
  • Propane Refills
  • Delivery Services
  • Custom Building Materials
  • Equipment Rental
  • Lumber
  • Garden Items and Equipment
  • Custom Paint and Color Matching
  • Special Order (including custom building products like doors and windows)

An auditorium is also being built in Gas City. The location will be on Olynger road and will seat 1200 (seats facing south). The city will begin taking bids for construction in April and a decision will be made in May. At this time, the auditorium does not have an official name, but that decision will be made by the Mississinewa School Corporation.

Gas City Pizza Hut has officially reopened their new location at 716 E Main Street. Pizza Hut is no longer offering dine-in at their new location. They are now carryout and delivery only.

It’s an exciting time in Grant County, and in Gas City specifically, as our community continues to build and develop new services and landmarks for all residents to enjoy.
